Details: Antique Japanese bronze incense burner lid showcasing an eagle perched on a stony outcropping looking down with outspread wings. The lid is cast in 3/4 parts consisting of the base, body and wings. All parts are fixed together apart from the eagle body which detaches from the base. The pierced base would be the part of the lid that allowed incense smoke to escape. This piece is consistent with those in the Meiji era (1868-1912), corresponding to the reign of Emperor Meiji. This era marked the ending of the isolated feudal society and the beginning of a modern industrialized society.
